100 BOOKS IN A YEAR CHALLENGE

I've seen a lot of people online mentioning this challenge - to read 100 books in a year - in their bucket lists. The more I hear about it, the more I want to do it. I love reading, but sometimes books can just get forgotten about, and before I know it I've gone a few weeks without reading anything for pleasure. I'm hoping that this challenge will make me remember this hobby and to get back into reading more regularly.

This challenge is pretty open to interpretation. From what I've read online, most people read a combination of fiction and non-fiction, or read to help them in business or writing pursuits. So here are my goals for this challenge.

KEEP A RECORD OF WHAT I READ
Firstly, I plan to write about the books I read, in the form of reviews, on here. Partly to log my progress, but mostly to share with you what I love and what I think you guys should read too!

MIX UP PAPERBACKS, KINDLE BOOKS AND AUDIO BOOKS
I first made the switch to eBooks when I moved to university, and just didn't have the space to store my growing collection. But now that I have my own flat with my partner, I have the room to once again start a collection. So don't worry, not all of my book posts will include pictures of a kindle screen! I also want to start trying audio books, as they're perfect for multitasking while cleaning or cooking.

READ NOVELS, GRAPHIC NOVELS, POETRY AND NON-FICTION
One of my main goals of this challenge is to diversify what I read. I used to love reading graphic novels (I read my old local library's entire collection in my youth) and I want to get back into them. I also want to start trying out poetry and more non-fiction books, neither of which I have ever really got into before. So now is the perfect time to start.

SWITCH UP MY GENRES
I am an avid sci-fi and fantasy reader. That is my favourite genre, ever, and is usually my go-to when choosing a new book. But I also like crime (particularly serial killer related crime thrillers), period novels (Pride and Prejudice is one of my favourite books), and horror (I love Clive Barker) - so will be trying to mix up these genres during this challenge.

UTILISE DIFFERENT SOURCES
Buying 100 books myself will be pretty pricey, especially if I'm not sure I'll love them (as can be the case with reading, sometimes you and the book just don't get on well), so I plan to get my reading material from different places. Firstly - raiding my old collection at my parents house, where I have a few old favourites saved that I'd like to read again sometime soon. Secondly, I'd like to try out Kindle Unlimited, as I've heard a few other bloggers talking about it. They give you a month's free trial, so that's be perfect to see if it had enough books I'd be interested in to continue a subscription. Lastly, I'd also like to check out my local library. I use my uni library for course related books, but I never check out its fiction section (which I'm sure it must have!) and I still don't have a membership for the local city library either (shame on me!), which I hope to rectify soon.

I think all of these goals will help make this challenge more fun, and less daunting. If I don't complete it, it's no big deal, and I'm not going to 'cheat' by reading a load of short stories just to rack up points. I want to enjoy my progress, and hopefully you guys will enjoy hearing about it!

Any recommendations?
